'Neverending dutch houses' installation art

Size: L 16 x W 16 X H 5 cm

This work is about finding individuality in uniformity. A typical Dutch phenomenon are the duplicate big scale residential areas with identical houses. Inspired by this typical Dutch project planning Rosalinde made a scale of never ending houses. The never ending houses in ceramics, referencing the blue of the delftware which is typical for the Netherlands.
In my art works I experiments using different materials and researching old and new ways to make contemporary art. At Willem de Kooning academy of art Rotterdam I studied the old printing techniques and 3 D art.
The work is unique and one of a piece.

'Neverending dutch houses' installation art

‘Po’ acryl on stretched canvas

Warm yellow and blue colours spread out over the canvass like branches of a river in a delta. Lending this work its name ‘Po’ after the northern Italian river, which has a long history in the interconnectivity between cities and communities and the development of the landscape.

In my art works I experiment using different techniques and researching old and new ways to make visual art.

I've a background in the old printing techniques and in making 3D art. The experience of space and using the structure of the canvas and also roughly and intense bringing on and taking away layers of paint define my 2 D works.

‘Big bang’ acryl on stretched canvas

Size: W 115 x H 90 cm

In a big bang colours spread across the canvass. The light blue contrasts starkly with the deep orange red and the almost blackish green. Set against a pastel background of lighter colour tones which exemplifies the chaos at the front. What compounds this work is that on the one hand the mass of colours feels very dense and heavy, but through the fluid movement of a dancer it creates the feeling of a eruption or large movement of mass. Like the power of the big bang this work expands under a lot of pressure.

In this artwork greenish blues strike havoc in the foreground. Like a pouring of water making its path across the land. The water like stream is surrounded by light yellow intersected with white brush strokes, giving it an almost icy primordial feel. Deluge is what comes to mind to describe the power in this artwork, telling a story of unstoppable destruction, but the warm coloured sunlike shape in the background indicates that the world goes on an there’s hope.

My style is characterized by research, society and deep devotion for the essence of what art is by asking questions rather than offering answers: What is art? What is
good art? And what makes art? Being a conceptual artist means I use a broad variation of materials, mediums and themes.

Striking deep purple and green dance in a whirlwind of blue and white: A contrast of two stories one happy and light and the other dramatic and chaotic. This gives its name Grønland, the old Norse name for Greenland. According to the Icelandic sagas it was named so by Erik the Red to make it sound more attractive to settlers, compared to something like Iceland. This artwork explores the disunity between the reality of truth and the marvels of fiction.

The contrasting deep orange and black set against a backdrop of flashes of blue and grey, setting up an aloof scene, like a pass through a perilous landscape, symbolizing the struggle and willpower to achieve eternity.

Boats are hanging in counterbalance with a huge wooden natural coloured block hanging meters above the main entrance hall. Made for a public space in Vlaardingen the boats connect with the history of the area as Vlaardingen used to have a large harbour industry, laying close to Rotterdam and the river Maas. The boats going in different directions symbolize different people and backgrounds coming together and exchanging while going their own way, just like the ships passing harbour for centuries.

Flamelike red flows from above and three other colours flow in opposite directions. Inspired by the Simurgh, a benevolent all-knowing mythical bird in Persian mythology, like the phoenix it would plunge itself into flames to be reborn. Symbolizing wisdom and reinvention, which lends to the balance and dynamism coming together in this work.

A wicker basket in an egg shape. The inner space is wide enough for an adult person when folded. Being transported on a wooden simple wheeled vehicle. No colour, only natural wood and wicker. Inspired by prototypes and drawings for new machines and inventions. This work stares like a veil that gives a glimpse of its contents. A dance of deep blue and citron yellow supported by lighter tones of blue and green. Telling a story of drama as well as mystery. The Ides of March was a Roman religious celebration marking the start of the new year and it also was the date on which Caesar was murdered, which was also foreshadowed.
